A Cure For Bone Cancer Is Close

While a cure for bone cancer is nearing, it has not been found yet. The closest to a cure that doctors have been able to find for cancer of the bone is when it has not metastasized (otherwise known as “spread”) and it is contained within one part of the body. There are two ways to look at cancer of the bone. One, it is a very rare form of cancer and is not commonly diagnosed. On the flip side of that, since it is so rare, it is difficult to study and put on the front burners of research to look for a cure, when other, more commonly found cancers are in such dire need for a cure.

Most forms of cancer of the bone is found in children as young as 3 or 4 years old to around the age of 30 years old, although generally it is diagnosed in those between the ages of 10-20 years of age. Occasionally women are diagnosed with bone cancer, however, more men or Caucasian descent contracts this type of cancer of the bone. There is one type of cancer; however that does not normally affect a younger age bracket but rather an older age group. This cancer form is called Chondrosarcoma and generally affects women and mostly men over the age of 50 years old.

If a bone tumor is found early enough and has not shown to have metastasized at all, you will be given a stage 1 cancer diagnosis. This is the best case scenario if you are diagnosed with cancer. This means that your tumor is contained in one region and has not begun to spread to any other parts of your body. Generally the tumor is small and it can be surgically removed and after one or two rounds of chemotherapy, you can consider yourself “cured”. Stages 2 and 3 are a more difficult, but not entirely impossible cancer to treat.  These stages of cancer mean that they have begun to spread and affect other organs and bone in your body. The severity increases as the stages go higher. If you have a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, this is the toughest cure for bone cancer. Stage 4 cancer normally means that the cancer has spread to too many organs in your body, making it extremely difficult to come out of your illness and your survival rate decreases dramatically at this point. There have been success stories with stage 4 cancer, but they are few and far between. Early diagnosis is the key to fighting this disease before it spreads.
